'Knitwear' to me conjures up memories of unflattering Christmas jumpers (Colin Firth in Bridget Jones is an fine exception...), stifling heat and just... "unflatteringness". Which isn't a word I know, but hear me out. There's a general sense of FRUMP which surrounds it and if you have a rack which boys prefer talking to rather than your face, it makes you look big. This is what I have concluded about knitwear.
But! In some kind of bizarre twist of event it turns out that sexy and knitwear can be placed in the same sentence. There are numerous designers whose knitting skills would make Grandma fall out of her rocking chair but someone who is currently impressing me is Mark Fast (total superhero name or what?). Canadian, an CSM graduate, and everything is all done on his own knitting machine. These aren't pieces that are produced en masse, and so it's all pretty exclusive. The beautiful colours coupled with aggressive gaps and patterns is gorgeous - and results in a femininity with an edge. Wouldn't wear it in front of the parents but that's just a testament to how hot it all is. Colin Farell in his Christmas Rudolph jumper glory would be proud... And then morph into Mr Darcy and buy me a piece...
(It is seriously taking up all restraint to not quote Pride & Prejudice.)
